Chris Sharrock used to be taught at school by none other than Bill Heckle in what seems like a different life for both of them! Best of buddies for 35 years, the glue that binds them is the love and passion for all things Fab Four. Whenever Chris was home on Merseyside after traipsing the world with notables such as Icicle Works, the La’s, World Party, The Lightning Seeds, Robbie Williams, Oasis and Beady Eye, Bill and Chris would get together and talk and play Beatles non stop! Chris played drums on smash hits such as There She Goes, Three Lions, She’s The One, Angels and the last Liverpool number one single He Ain’t Heavy (He’s My Brother) in aid of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign.
After the break up of Beady Eye, Chris took time off from his hitherto hectic, incessant touring schedule to, as he puts it, “listen to me Beatles Bootlegs!” Chris joined Bill on a number of occasions to see The Cavern Club Beatles, who he absolutely loved. How can you possibly have a better night out?
He was devastated, like all of us, with the sudden illness of Steve the drummer, who collapsed on the golf course, but to help all (and especially Bill) he offered to fill in on the following Saturday. With no tours planned at the moment Chris has been filling in for the last few months until the situation is resolved. Chris has always been to Beatleweek whenever he was not busy, but has always been very low key, save the playing a few numbers with friends Ringer on one occasion. This week we are privileged to have local legend and internationally renowned drummer officially play our festival. Bill is only too glad that Chris never listened to his history lessons…as history might have been changed for the worse!
